With the quest for more detailed and precise micropaleontologic data has come a stronger emphasis for quantitative studies of microfossils. Many workers have realized, however, that slide preparation and counting can contribute large errors in quantitative studies (Battarbee, 1973; Moore, 1973; Hattner and Wise, 1980; Laws, 1983).
