Journal of Latin American Studies is seeking a new Book Review Editor to replace Néstor Castañeda, who is becoming Co-Editor in 2025. Cambridge University Press is now inviting applications for the Book Review Editor position for an initial term of three years (2025–2027). Final appointment decisions will be made by the Syndicate of Cambridge University Press.
For over 50 years, Journal of Latin American Studies has been a leader in the field, publishing research on Latin American history, politics, geography, public policy, sociology, social anthropology, and cognate subjects in the social sciences.
Interested applicants should send a curriculum vita and brief cover letter detailing their qualifications, any editorial experience, and their interest in the position at JLAS. The Book Review Editor receives an annual honorarium of £500 (or equivalent in local currency).

The Book Review Editor’s responsibilities will include:
• Commissioning 50-60 short book reviews relevant to the journal per year, including books in English, Portuguese, and Spanish
• Working with the managing editor to invite reviewers and process submitted book reviews through the ScholarOne peer review system
• In collaboration with the JLAS editors, prepare 4 annual issues of the journal
• Attending an annual editorial meeting

• Experience publishing in relevant fields, including political science, history, anthropology, economics, geography, or archaeology
• Editorial experience, if any
• Strong professional and academic links
• Organizational, communication and IT skills
