The award honors Dr. Anthony Lodge as one of the co-founders of JFLS with Carol Sanders, Jacques Durand, Richard Towell and for his work in French sociolinguistics. In 2018, he was awarded the Prix du Rayonnement de la langue et de la littérature française by the Académie française. He is Emeritus Professor of French Language and Linguistics at the University of St Andrews.

Biographie

Sandrine Tailleur est professeure titulaire en sciences du langage à l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Elle est spécialiste de sociolinguistique historique et de syntaxe du français. Ses intérêts se partagent entre l’étude de la variation morphosyntaxique menant ou non au changement linguistique, et l'étude de la représentation des Premières Nations dans les écrits en français historique au Canada francophone. Elle est chercheuse principale et cochercheuse de plusieurs projets de recherche financés, est membre du Centre de Recherche interuniversitaire sur le français en usage au Québec, dir. par Wim Remysen, ainsi que du North American Research Network in Historical Sociolinguistics, où elle a siégé au comité de direction.

C'est grâce à l'invitation des responsables du numéro spécial sur l'interrogative in situ (vol. 34), Alexander Guryev, Laurie Dekhissi et Caterina Bonan, que cet article a vu le jour, et je les remercie infiniment de m'avoir offert cette opportunité. L'évolution du système des interrogatives partielles me fascine depuis ma thèse de doctorat (2013), et plusieurs questions théoriques demeurent. Malgré cela, j'ai décidé d'aborder cet enjeu de façon plus empirico-descriptive : quelle place occupe vraiment la variante in situ dans le système d'interrogation partielle du français québécois, et depuis quand est-elle présente ? Cet article est bien de son temps : entre le début de la rédaction et la soumission finale, plusieurs des plus grands corpus sociolinguistiques québécois ont été rendus librement disponibles grâce au Fonds de données linguistique du Québec (responsable : Wim Remysen). Jamais je n'aurais pu avoir un portrait longitudinal aussi étoffé sans l'apport des données de ces corpus. Je considère que ça prend un village pour faire de la recherche, et cet article en est un superbe exemple.

About the Award

Timeline: When will this be awarded? Which manuscripts will be eligible?
It will be awarded in early January to a research paper published the previous year.

Selection process: Who will select the winner? What are the grounds/criteria for selecting the winner?
The JFLS Editors and the Advisory Board will suggest names and will vote anonymously to select the winner. The criteria are: the rigor and innovation of the methodology, the originality of the research questions, the significance of the article and contribution to its specific area of research and to French linguistics in general.

Application process: Which manuscripts will be eligible? Can authors apply or will manuscripts published within a certain timeframe be automatically eligible?
All research articles published in the previous year are automatically eligible.

Is there a prize with the award?
The winner will also receive Cambridge University Press book vouchers worth £200.
