5 Benedetto Croce was a rare and brilliant exception, as was Luigi Einaudi, who avoided confrontation but did not abandon integrity. Gino Luzzato wrote pseudonymously. An avowed anti-fascist, Adolfo Omodeo was one of the three or four truly great Cavourian scholars of those years.
