1 Along with Leon N. Moses of Northwestern University and Michael Greenwood, Mildred B. Levy, and Carmen F. Menezes, all formerly of the Transportation Center at Northwestern University, I have been engaged in a study of Ghana sponsored by the Brookings Institution.

2 Since the total area of Ghana is roughly the same as the area of the New England states, I shall compare Williamson's analysis of the states in a region with calculations I have made for the seven regions of Ghana.
