Influence of stem apex on crosses between subspecies of Vicia faba L.
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 27 March 2009
Summary
Crosses and reciprocal crosses were made between English material of Vicia faba major × Vicia faba equina and minor.
Half the major type plants had the stem apex removed before pollinations commenced. Apical dominance affected the success of crosses between major × equina, minor. On higher nodes and, on lower nodes when the apex was removed, there was no evidence of unilateral incompatibility. All crosses produced seed.
