Abstract

Detailed cytological survey of the developmental stages of Zonocerus variegatus L. revealed major aberrations like lagging, precocious activity of chromosomes, X-autosome associations, pseudochiasmata, deletions, etc. Chiasmata were found to be largely terminally localized and meiosis commences as early as the third instar stage. Models for autocidal control are proposed based on these findings.
