Parasites, parasitoids and predators of Oedaleus senegalensis krauss (Orthoptera: Acrididae) in Nigeria

Abstract

A survey of the parasites, parasitoids and predators of the nymphs and adults of Oedaleus senegalensis showed that three dipterous insects and a red mite were common parasitoids of the grasshopper. Seven arthropod species were observed preying on the nymphs. Among the vertebrates, two reptile species, one amphibian and 20 species of birds were observed preying on both the nymphs and adults of the grasshopper.

Résumé

Un étude portant sur les parasites et les prédateurs des nymphes et des adultes de l'Oedaleus senegalensis a permis de constater que trois espèces d'insectes dipteres et une mite rouge sont des parasites de la sauterelle. Sept arthropodes ont été observes en train de faire de la nymphe leur proie. Parmis les predateurs vertébrés, deux reptiles, un amphibien et dix-huit espèces d'oiseaux se norrissaient aussi bien des nymphes que des adultes de la sauterelle.
