An Alkali Facies of Granite at Granite-Dolomite Contacts in Skye

Abstract

The development of an alkali pyroxene-bearing fades of granite at the contact of the Beinn an Dubhaich granite of Skye with Durness dolomites is associated with a skarn formation involving magmatic transfer of alumina. The significance of the processes at work in this and related examples is discussed.
