The development of catatonia in a 38 year old Nigerian man suffering from schizophrenia was analyzed in terms of its bio-psycho-social model of disease.

Although the aetiology of catatonia specifier remain somewhat unclear even after many years of study, the bio-psycho-social model is nevertheless useful in understanding the development of this condition. The possible treatment modalities were also identified.
