Tratamiento psicofarmacológico de la manía

Desde la introducción del litio en el tratamiento de la mania tras los trabajos ya clásicos de Cade y Schuo en los años 50, se ha acumulado un importante cuerpo de pruebas acerca de su eficacia tanto en el tratamiento de la manía aguda como en la profilaxis del trastorno bipolar, siendo considerado este fármaco de primera elección en la patología citada. Numerosos autores y revisiones Maj, Licth, Fieve, Bowden, Mc Elroy apoyan esta afirmación.
