Abstract

In this communication, the general properties of AGNs are firstreviewed: history, classification, model and unification. Thecontribution of direct optical imaging is thus discussed. A HSTimage is taken into example showing the observational limitationsnear the center. The interest of high contrast imaging is thendiscussed.
