Abstract

On the Antarctica plateau, a joint project of french and italianpolar programmes in just near completion: the Concordia stationwill be open for winterover operation in 2005. The high altitudeand high latitude of this site, the exceptionally cold, clear andstable atmosphere, the almost indefinitely flat snow surface andthe not so difficult access make this site the most promising onEarth for future ground based astronomical projects in variousfields, including High Angular Resolution and High ContrastImaging.
