1 With regard to a large class of these receipts, however, Prof. Wilcken has already withdrawn this explanation (Archiv für Papyrusforschung, i. 141), definite evidence to the contrary having heen furnished by a papyrus in the British Museum ; a fact which strikingly illustrates the uncertainty which still surrounds much of the subject.
