1 Not two caves as Pocock believes: the Greek in Od. xiii. 347–50, even if the very dubious text is sound, does not indicate more than one, and the plural in xvi. 232 proves nothing: nor does the fact that there two caves ‘within two or three minutes' walk of one another’ near Trapani settle the matter.
