page 173 note 2 I feel that Headlam's term leitmotiv is unfortunate. It means a phrase invented for and restricted to one idea; these rhythmical figures cannot be that.

page 174 note 2 For in vv. 207 and 227 there is no suggestion of Orestes, and the explanation of vv. 504–515 is not very convincing.
