page 172 note 1 It is difficult to reconcile this with the statement on p. 78 relative to the Scythian and Libyan λόγοι: ‘Diese zeigen offensichtlich den besonderen Stil der Periegese und sind nicht durch das historische Leitmotiv bestimmt.’ P. admits that these are exceptions, but he makes no reference to them in the earlier passage.
