A REVIEW OF THE NEARCTIC SPECIES OF MELANGYNA (MELIGRAMMA) FREY (DIPTERA: SYRPHIDAE)

Abstract

Keys to adults and puparia of three Nearctic species are given, with an outline of distribution of each species. Melangyna tenuis (Osburn) and M. cincta, American authors not Fallén, are treated as synonyms of M. triangulifera (Zetterstedt). A lectotype is designated for M. guttata (Fallén). A new species is described from British Columbia.

Résumé

L’auteur présente des clefs d’identification des adultes et puparia de trois espèces néarctiques et trace les grandes lignes de la distribution de chacune. M. tenuis (Osburn) et M. cincta, auteurs américains et non Fallén, sont traités comme synonymes de M. triangulifera (Zetterstedt). Un lectotype est désigné pour M. guttata (Fallén). L’auteur décrit également une nouvelle espèce en provenance de la Colombie-Britannique.
