CONIOSCINELLA ZETTERSTEDTI ANDERSSON (DIPTERA: CHLOROPIDAE), A CHLOROPID FLY WITH POLYMORPHIC WING REDUCTION, NEW TO THE NEARCTIC AND CENTRAL PALAEARCTIC REGIONS

Abstract

Conioscinella zetterstedti Andersson, a Palaearctic chloropid fly with polymorphic wing reduction, is recorded for the first time from the Nearctic region. The known range of the species is also expanded in the Palaearctic region, with records from the Novosibirsk region of Russia. The male and female terminalia are described and illustrated. Although previously known only from supralittoral areas on the shores of the North and Baltic seas, collection data in the Nearctic and central Palaearctic regions indicate that C. zetterstedti may be abundant in various decay communities including peatlands, swamps, lake shore debris, mammal nests, forest leaf litter, and around the bases of vegetation.

Résumé

Conioscinella zetterstedti Andersson, un chlorops paléarctique à réduction polymorphe des ailes, a été découvert dans la région néarctique. Sa répartition est également plus étendue dans la région paléarctique qu’on ne le croyait à ce jour, puisque l’espèce a été trouvée dans la région de Novosibirsk en Russie. On trouvera ici la description illustrée des genitalia du mâle et de la femelle. Ce chlorops n’avait jusqu’à présent été rencontré que dans la zone supralittorale des côtes de la mer du Nord et de la mer Baltique, mais les récoltes effectuées dans la région néarctique et le centre de la région paléarctique indiquent que C. zetterstedti est probablement abondant dans plusieurs communautés reliées à la décomposition, tourbières, marécages, débris accumulés sur les rives des lacs, nids de mammifères, litière de feuilles en forêt et sol à la base des plantes.
