SYNONYMY OF APHIS HERACLELLA DAVIS 1919 WITH APHIS HELIANTHI MONELL 1879 (HOMOPTERA: APHIDIDAE)

Abstract

Aphis heraclella Davis is synonymized with A. helianthi Monell. This is concluded from the following evidence: (1) the apparent lack of any morphological distinction between these taxa, (2) the phenology of host plant occupation in the field, and (3) host transfer studies.

Résumé

Aphis heraclella Davis est considéré comme étant synonyme d’A. helianthi Monell. Cette conclusion est fondée sur : (1) l’absence apparente de différences morphologiques entre ces deux taxons, (2) la phénologie de leur présence sur la plante-hôte en milieu naturel, et (3) des études impliquant des changements de plante-hôte.
