Four new species of feather mites (Acari: Analgoidea)

Abstract

Four new species of feather mites are described from birds in Canada: Megniniella ratcliffisp.nov. (Analgidae) and Metanalges holderisp.nov. (Analgidae) from the Sora, Porzana carolina (Linnaeus) (Gruiformes: Rallidae): Metingrassia pelecanisp.nov. (Xolalgidae) from the American White Pelican, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos Gmelin (Pelecaniformes: Pelecanidae); and Vingrassia cygnisp.nov. (Xolalgidae) from the Tundra Swan, Cygnus columbianus (Ord) (Ànseriformes: Anatidae). The genus Vingrassia is reinstated from its previous synonymy with the genus Ingrassia based on the presence of an enlarged prodorsal shield in both sexes, by the shape of the idiosoma and the interlobar membrane on the lobar apices in the male, and by the shape of the hysteronotal shield and the absence of setae ps2 in the female.

Résumé

On trouvera ici les descriptions de Megniniella ratcliffisp.nov. (Analgidae) et de Metanalges holderisp.nov. (Analgidae), lesquelles sont basées sur l'examen d'adultes découverts dans le plumage du Râle de Caroline, Porzana carolina (Linnaeus) (Gruiformes : Rallidae). On trouvera également les descriptions de Metingrassia pelecanisp.nov. (Xolalgidae) et de Vingrassia cygnisp.nov. (Xolalgidae), à partir de spécimens adultes récoltés respectivement dans le plumage du Pélican Américain Blanc, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos Gmelin (Pelecaniformes : Pelecanidae) et du Cygne de Toundra, Cygnus columbianus (Ord) (Anseriformes : Anatidae). Le genre Vingrassia est réintégré de sa synonymie précédente avec le genre Ingrassia car il se distingue de ce dernier par la présence d'un bouclier prodorsal agrandi chez les deux sexes, par la forme de l'idiosoma et la membrane interlobaire sur les extrémités lobaires chez le mâle et par la forme du bouclier hysteronotal et l'absence de poils ps2 chez la femelle.
