DIGRESSOBOMBUS, A NEW SUBGENUS WITH A DESCRIPTION OF THE MALE OF BOMBUS DIGRESSUS (HYMENOPTERA: APIDAE)

Abstract

The male of the rare Bombus digressus (Milliron) is described based on new material from Costa Rica. Both male and worker castes display unusual combinations of structural characteristics and the unique male genitalia are considered to warrant the erection of a new monotypic subgenus, Digressobombus.

Résumé

Une description du mâle de l'espèce rare Bombus digressus (Milliron) est présentée, fondée sur du materiel nouveau en provenance de Costa Rica. Les castes mâles et ouvrières ont toutes les deux des combinaisons de caracteristiques structurelles inhabituelles et les organes génitaux uniques du mâle sont considérés aptes à justifier l'érection d'un nouveau sous-genre monotypique, Digressobombus.
