Erkenwald is taken literatim from the Golden Legend (fo. 347b–348b), “Imprynted at London in Flete Strete at the sygne of the sonne by Wynkyn de Worde,” and “finysshed the xxvii. daye of August, the yere of our lord m.ccccc.xxvii. the xix. yere of the regne of our souerayne lorde Kynge Henry the eyght.” A fine copy of this edition, in which the story of Thomas à Becket has escaped without erasure, is in the Library of Sion College.
