page 157 note b Father Edward Oldcorne, S. J., afterwards executed for alleged complicity in the Gunpowder Plot. Francis (alias William) Clark, the writer of this letter, was himself executed, together with his friend William Watson, for the plot known as “The Bye,” Nov. 29, 1603. Some of Clark's letters are signed: “Francis alias Will. Clarke.”
