1 Hult’s reference (p. 35 n. 5) to another work by Aristides, Προς Λεπτίνην ύπέρ άτελείας, where the expression is allegedly attested, should be disregarded. The Leptinian speech, which has been traditionally attributed to Aristides, is in reality a rhetorical exercise composed by Metochites’ contemporary, the teacher and philologist Thomas Magistros.
