1 Al-Hamdāanī, Jazīrat (ed. Müller, p. 118, last few lines) gives a list of localities, among which the most easily recognizable one nowadays is Abhā, and which he calls ‘settlements (’awṭān) of ‘Asir’, adding ‘and these are called the land of Ṭawd’. Similarly, on p. 70, he speaks of Ṭawd in association with the Wādῑ Baysh.
