Two documents on this subject have been submitted for publication in the Bulletin. Document 1 is a statement of the circumstances which led to the setting up of a joint Working Party to consider these special requirements, and of the policy subsequently adopted by the College. Document 2 is the report of a survey conducted on behalf of the Working Party. It was found that there was some overlap between the two documents, and for this reason and for the convenience of readers some changes have been made in the presentation of their contents; in particular, some of the introductory passages of Document 2 have been transferred to Document 1, and for some passages which occur in both documents the reader is referred to Document 2.

The Working Party was set up to consider the question posed by the DHSS as to whether there should be a ‘teaching increment’ to the consultant target, i.e. should Districts with special teaching responsibilities have more consultants than similar ‘non-teaching’ Districts?

An Open Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 13 December, at the Tavistock Centre, Belsize Lane, London, N.W.3, at 8.15 p.m., when Dr J. Pedder will speak on ‘Transference: its place in play and theatre’.

A plaque measuring 7″ × 6″ approximately and showing the College Coat of Arms in four colours raised on a wooden shield of light oak, is now available. The price is £5.50 if bought at the College; £6.00 by post for U.K. and £6.50 for overseas surface mail, including postage and packing.

Members are reminded that increased rates of some annual subscriptions, details of which are shown below, were approved at the Annual General Meeting of the College of 5 July, 1978. These rates will operate as from 1 January, 1979.

As stated in ‘President's Press’ in the November issue, it has been agreed to hold a special meeting of Council members to discuss matters of mutual interest, to identify problem areas, and to begin to formulate College policy for the future development of our discipline. This meeting will be held at the College on 8 and 9 February 1979, following the Quarterly Meeting. The Divisions and Sections have been circularized and invited to discuss the selected topics in advance of the meeting, if possible. After the meeting the results of the discussion will be communicated to the Divisions and Sections for continuing debate.

You are invited to give a 10-minute paper at the Annual General Meeting of the College in Exeter on 10–13 July 1979. There will be one or two special sessions at which anyone below the rank of consultant can speak; abstracts of the papers may later appear in the Journal or Bulletin.
