The conference “Model Theory and Groups” was held in Münster, Germany, on the occasion of Katrin Tent’s 60th birthday. The conference took place on September 25–29, 2023, and was hosted by the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster.
The conference brought together researchers working in model theory and group theory, with a particular view toward geometric group theory, at any stage in their career, for an intense week of mathematical exchange and collaboration. There were over 75 participants in the conference. Generous support was provided by the Cluster of Excellence Mathematics Münster, the CRC 1442 Geometry: Deformations and Rigidity, the French–German ANR-DFG project GeoMod, and the Association for Symbolic Logic.
The programme consisted of five days of talks, together with a poster reception and a free afternoon set aside for an excursion or collaboration. There were 22 excellent plenary talks (of one hour each) by speakers with backgrounds in model theory and/or group theory, including a colloquium-style public lecture given by Emmanuel Breuillard (University of Oxford). The discussions during and after the talks showed clearly that the aim of the conference – to bring together specialists studying groups, through both model-theoretic and group-theoretic motivations – had been achieved. The members of the Organizing Committee were M. Hils (University of Münster), F. Jahnke (Universiteit van Amsterdam), I. Müller (American University of Cairo), and Zaniar Ghadernezhad (Buckingham University).
