Overlapping and copulation between the wet- and dry-season generations of Zonocerus variegatus (L.) (Orthoptera: Pyrgomorphidae) at Nsukka, Nigeria

Abstract

At Nsukka in south-eastern Nigeria, nymphs of the wet-and dry-season generations of Zonocerus variegatus (L.) overlapped, both in time (January to March) and in space. Contrary to some previous suggestions, adults of the two generations also overlapped (mid-May to end-July), and copulation occurred between individuals of both sexes in the laboratory.
