We, the Editors of BJPsych Open, have retracted the following article: Takiguchi, S., Fujisawa, T., Mizushima, S., Saito, D., Okamoto, Y., Shimada, K., . . . Tomoda, A. (Reference Takiguchi, Fujisawa, Mizushima, Saito, Okamoto, Shimada and Tomoda2015). Ventral striatum dysfunction in children and adolescents with reactive attachment disorder: Functional MRI study. BJPsych Open, 1(2), 121–128. https://doi.org/10.1192/bjpo.bp.115.001586

Following publication, the Editors were made aware that there had been communications between the corresponding author and a reviewer during the peer-review process. Following investigation by the University of Fukui and the Editors’ own review of the situation, the Editors determined that the review process had not been independent and blind. This manipulation of the peer review process represents a clear violation of the fundamentals of peer review, our publishing policies, and publishing ethics standards. Due to this breach of our publishing standards the findings reported in this article cannot be considered reliable. It is regrettable that this situation occurred and we apologise on behalf of the authors for the consequences of their actions.

ST, TXF, SM, DNS, YO, KS, MK, MJ, MH, MHT, AT agreed with the retraction. HK, HK, YO did not respond or could not be reached.
