1 Published in the Abingdon Chronicle (Rolls Series, 1858) 1, 124, and in Birch, Cart. Sax. in, 68. Dr Grundy (Berks,BucksOxon Arch. Journ., i922,xxvn, 98, 99), puzzled by finding an ‘abbendune’ so far from the town of that name, attempts to emend the text, but he has missed the point. There is really no difficulty to be overcome.

* We much regret that we were just too late to see Mr Guy Brunton's exhibition, and therefore cannot refer to it in this note. Reference is made to all three exhibitions in the current number of the British Museum Quarterly(vol.5,no. 2, pp.73–6).CrossRefGoogle Scholar
