An unusual Minerva-Fortuna figurine from Hinxworth, Hertfordshire

Abstract

A figurine unique for Roman Britain is described and analysed, showing that its attributes conflate those of several classical deities, all of whom might have been associated in the mind of the donor with the Romano-Celtic goddess, Senuna.

Résumé

Une figurine unique pour la Grande-Bretagne romaine est décrite et analysée, montrant que ses attributs réunissent ceux de plusieurs déités classiques qui auraient toutes pu être associées dans l’esprit du donateur avec la déesse romano-celte Senuna.

Zusammenfassung

Eine für das römische Britannien einzigartige Figur wird beschrieben und analysiert, was aufzeigt, daß in ihr mehrere klassische Gottheiten verschmelzen, von denen alle nach Ansicht des Donors mit der romano-keltischen Göttin Senuna in Verbindung gebracht werden können.
