The Collected Works of Russian Classical Writers

This article is an attempt to enumerate and evaluate briefly the most valuable collected works of Russian classical writers: Lermontov, Gogol, Turgenev, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and Chekhov. By "collected works" I mean what is called, in Russian, Polnoe sobranie sochinenij,— that is, editions which usually contain everything known to have been written by the author, including memoirs and letters—and Sobranie Sochinenij and Sochinenija, which usually include only the literary works of the author, generally complete, sometimes selectively i edited.
