It makes me somewhat pensive to reflect that the whole era of powered flight has taken place in my lifetime—even though I was too young when the Wright brothers first flew to realise what it would mean to the world in general and myself in particular. Nor could I have dreamt that I should one day have the privilege, in 1938, of meeting Mr. Orville Wright at his home in Dayton and hearing his views on the astonishing development of the art which he and his brother pioneered.
