An international committee, under the presidency of Dr. Hergesell, was formed some time ago with the object of conducting experiments in meteorology, with special reference to observations of the state of the atmosphere at a great elevation. With this object it was decided to send simultaneously from different places on the Continent a number of balloons carrying observers or self-registering instruments
