A laboratory has been established with two primary objectives. First it is to permit test and calibration of rocket and satellite x-ray astronomy experiments. Second it is for studies in ultrasoft x-ray physics. The basic units described are a precision x-ray spectrometer, a separate precision spectrograph, direct and fluorescence excitation sources, the rocket payload test chamber, and auxiliary components. Planned applications include measurements of crystal reflection coefficients, rocking curves, light element absorption edge structure, and spectroscopy of solid and high temperature gas sources.
