Summary
A large part of this book has been spent examining how human metabolism can adjust to various conditions, some quite extreme, and yet the whole body remain perfectly healthy. But, just as with any complex piece of machinery, things can go wrong. Disorders of metabolism may underlie (or be associated with) many common diseases, especially chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
