Introduction
This section of the book presents ten methodology boxes. Each of these boxes addresses an important methodological area for corpus-based studies. These discussions center around three major topics:
Corpus design and compilation: Boxes 1 and 2
Computational analysis of corpora: Boxes 3, 4, and 5
Quantitative analyses and measures in corpus-based study: Boxes 6–10
The boxes present introductions to these topics, providing an overview of analytical techniques and focusing on methodological issues. However, these discussions do not include detailed “how-to” instructions for carrying out corpus-based studies. Thus, while the information in these boxes will help you understand corpus-based analytical techniques, you will need to learn more about these areas as you begin to carry out corpus-based research on your own.
