We determine the metric dimension of the annihilating-ideal graph of a local finite commutative principal ring and a finite commutative principal ring with two maximal ideals. We also find bounds for the metric dimension of the annihilating-ideal graph of an arbitrary finite commutative principal ring.

A ring is called right annelidan if the right annihilator of any subset of the ring is comparable with every other right ideal. In this paper we develop the connections between this class of rings and the classes of right Bézout rings and rings whose right ideals form a distributive lattice. We obtain results on localization of right annelidan rings at prime ideals, chain conditions that entail left-right symmetry of the annelidan condition, and construction of completely prime ideals.

The notion of ring endomorphisms having large images is introduced. Among others, injectivity and surjectivity of such endomorphisms are studied. It is proved, in particular, that an endomorphism σ of a prime one-sided noetherian ring R is injective whenever the image σ(R) contains an essential left ideal L of R. If, in addition, σ(L)=L, then σ is an automorphism of R. Examples showing that the assumptions imposed on R cannot be weakened to R being a prime left Goldie ring are provided. Two open questions are formulated.

In this survey paper we present some results relating the Goldie dimension, dual Krull dimension and subdirect irreducibility in modules, torsion theories, Grothendieck categories and lattices. Our interest in studying this topic is rooted in a nice module theoretical result of Carl Faith [Commun. Algebra27 (1999), 1807–1810], characterizing Noetherian modules M by means of the finiteness of the Goldie dimension of all its quotient modules and the ACC on its subdirectly irreducible submodules. Thus, we extend his result in a dual Krull dimension setting and consider its dualization, not only in modules, but also in upper continuous modular lattices, with applications to torsion theories and Grothendieck categories.

Let R be a ring, S a strictly ordered monoid, and ω:S→End(R) a monoid homomorphism. The skew generalized power series ring R[[S,ω]] is a common generalization of (skew) polynomial rings, (skew) power series rings, (skew) Laurent polynomial rings, (skew) group rings, and Mal’cev–Neumann Laurent series rings. We study the (S,ω)-Armendariz condition on R, a generalization of the standard Armendariz condition from polynomials to skew generalized power series. We resolve the structure of (S,ω)-Armendariz rings and obtain various necessary or sufficient conditions for a ring to be (S,ω)-Armendariz, unifying and generalizing a number of known Armendariz-like conditions in the aforementioned special cases. As particular cases of our general results we obtain several new theorems on the Armendariz condition; for example, left uniserial rings are Armendariz. We also characterize when a skew generalized power series ring is reduced or semicommutative, and we obtain partial characterizations for it to be reversible or 2-primal.

Using a variation on the concept of a CS module, we describe exactly when a simple ring is isomorphic to a ring of matrices over a Bézout domain. Our techniques are then applied to characterise simple rings which are right and left Goldie, right and left semihereditary.

Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian integral domain with field of fractions $Q$. Generalizing a forty-year-old theorem of E. Matlis, we prove that the $R$-module $Q/R$ (or $Q$) has Krull dimension if and only if $R$ is semilocal and one-dimensional. Moreover, if $X$ is an injective module over a commutative Noetherian ring such that $X$ has Krull dimension, then the Krull dimension of $X$ is at most 1.

This paper is a contiunation of the study of the rings for which every principal right ideal (respectively, every right ideal) is a direct summand of a right annihilator initiated by Stanley S. Page and the author in [20, 21].

For an infinite cardinal ℵ an associative ring R is quotient ℵ<-dimensional if the generalized Goldie dimension of all right quotient modules of RR are strictly less than ℵ. This latter quotient property of RR is characterized in terms of certain essential submodules of cyclic modules being generated by less than ℵ elements, and also in terms of weak injectivity and tightness properties of certain subdirect products of injective modules. The above is the higher cardinal analogue of the known theory in the finite ℵ = ℵ0 case.

Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a generalised matrix ring to be semiprime right Goldie.
