Age disparities between charcoal samples and their context are a well-known problem in archaeological chronometry, and even small offsets could affect the accuracy of high-precision wiggle-matched dates. In many cases of taphonomic or anthropogenic loss of the outermost rings, sapwood-based methods for estimating cutting dates are not always applicable, especially with charcoal. In these instances, wiggle-matched terminus post quem (TPQ) dates are often reconciled with subjective or ad hoc approaches. This study examines the distribution of age disparities caused by ring loss and other factors in a large dendroarchaeological dataset. Probability density functions describing the random distribution of age disparities are then fit to the empirical distributions. These functions are tested on an actual wiggle-matched non-cutting date from the literature to evaluate accuracy in a single case. Simulations are then presented to demonstrate how an age offset function can be applied in OxCal outlier models to yield accurate dating in archaeological sequences with short intervals between dated episodes, even if all samples are non-cutting dates.

The relationships between the Tridimensional Personality Questionnaire (TPQ) and depression were examined in a sample of 53 major depressive patients and 33 healthy controls. Depressed patients exhibit higher harm avoidance scores as well as lower novelty seeking sub-scale exploratory excitability (NSI) scores as compared to healthy controls. However, the other dimensions and their sub-scales do not differ between depressive patients and controls. In the depressive group, the harm avoidance dimension is related to the severity of depression as assessed by the Hamilton scale. This study confirms the state dependence of the harm avoidance dimension and suggests a relationship between the novelty seeking sub-scale NSI and depression.

Se examinaron las relaciones entre el Cuestionario Tridimensional de la Personalidad (TPQ) y la depresión en una muestra de 53 pacientes con depresión mayor y 33 controles sanos. Los pacientes deprimidos muestran, en comparación con los controles sanos, puntuaciones más altas de evitación del daño y, además, puntuaciones más bajas de la subescala excitabilidad exploratoria (NS1) de la búsqueda de novedad. Sin embargo, las otras dimensiones y sus subescalas no difieren entre los pacientes depresivos y los controles. En el grupo depresivo, la dimensión de evitación del daño está relacionada con la gravedad de la depresión, evaluada por la escala de Hamilton. Este estudio confirma la dependencia de estado de la dimensión de evitación del daño y propone una relación entre la subescala NS1 de búsqueda de novedad y la depresión.
