Catalysts for nanocarbon growth. This issue of MRS Bulletin reviews the mechanisms and theory of catalytic growth of nanocarbons, including controlled growth of carbon nanotubes and the growth of large-quantity, high-quality graphene on metal substrates. The issue also covers the unique properties of the grown nanocarbons for current and potential commercial applications. The cover shows a schematic of catalysts (blue and red)-templated growth of single-wall carbon nanotubes (green) with a single chirality. Image courtesy of Yan Li, Peking University, China.
