Summary
The genealogical charts of the Turner and Pain families have been constructed from a number of sources. These include original documents held by archive services; published documents; online databases (Family Search and Ancestry); gravestones; and a family bible.
Where possible, birth and death dates have been given in preference to baptismal and burial dates on the genealogical charts. Birth and death dates were largely drawn from the family bible (see below). Baptismal and burial dates are included in the volume text.
Gravestones of John Turner I, Anna Maria Turner, Elizabeth Turner, Ann Piercy Odell and John Turner II can still be seen in Milton Ernest churchyard.
The gravestone of Mary Ann Maria Turner can be seen in Bolnhurst churchyard.
Mary Pain's tombstone (wife of Joseph Pain) can be seen in Felmersham churchyard. The memorial to Susannah Turner can be seen in Felmersham church.
The family bible, kindly made available by the Odell family of Canada, records the birth dates of John Turner I as 11 April 1759; Anna Maria Piercy Turner as 6 June 1755; Richard Turner as 27 September 1784; Mary Ann Maria Turner as 28 June 1786 (at Rugby); Elizabeth Turner as 4 November 1787; John Turner as 16 October 1789; Ann Piercy Turner as 12 May 1791; Thomas Turner as 16 March 1796; Thomas ‘Tom’ Turner Odell as 15 January 1831; and John Cox Odell as 10 October 1832.
The family bible records the death dates of Mary Ann Maria Turner as 10 October 1808; Anna Maria Turner as 4 December 1828; John Turner I as 27 November 1844; of Thomas Turner of St Andrews as 9 October 1850; Whitbread Odell as Friday 11 January 1855 (his death date is given on the genealogical chart as Friday 12 January as the 11 January was actually a Thursday); John Turner as 16 April 1862; Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Turner as 22 July 1864; and Thomas Turner Odell of St Andrews as 21 March 1891.
