Grant by William de Bodele to Robert Bendyn [2 September 1325]
To all those who may see or hear the present document, William de Bodele, citizen and vintner of London, Greetings in the lord. Whereas the lands and tenements which used to be those of Ralph Sporon in London, i.e. in the parish of St Sepulchre at Newgate, London, were handed over to me by a valuation according to the new statute for merchants promulgated, to hold as my free tenement up until I shall have received and obtained twenty marks sterling owed to me by the same Ralph, according to the said document in accordance with the abovesaid new statute, together with losses incurred and expenses according to the form of the said statute: Know that I, the aforesaid William, have granted and demised to Sir Robert Bendyn, knight, all the said lands and tenements abovenamed with their appurtenances, to have and to hold by the same Sir Robert and his heirs and assigns well and in peace until they shall have raised and received the said sum of money along with losses and expenses according to the form of the above valuation. Thus therefore that neither I the said William, nor my heirs and executors, nor anyone in our name or on our behalf may from henceforth in future exact, claim or challenge any right or claim in the aforesaid lands and tenements or in the valuation. For this grant and demise the aforesaid Sir Robert has paid me a certain sum of money into my hands. In testimony of which I have set my seal to the present document. Issued at London on the Monday after the Feast of the Decollation of St John the Baptist in the nineteenth year of the reign of King Edward son of King Edward.
Lifetime grant by Joanna Sporon to Elias and Emma Fraunceys [30 October 1342]
Be it known to all whom this present indenture shall reach that Joanna Sporon, the daughter and heir of Ralph Sporon, formerly citizen and goldsmith of London, sends greetings.
