The testament of Richard Bradcok [27 October 1441 and 15 November 1441, proved 9 December 1441, probate sealed 11 August 1468]
To all sons of Holy Mother Church who may inspect this present document, Roger Radclyff, doctor of law, dean of the church of St Mary-le-Bow, London, of the immediate jurisdiction of Christ Church, Canterbury, sends greetings. We make known to all by this present document that, having inspected the register of proved testaments of our aforesaid deanery for the year ad 1441, which has been well and faithfully kept, we find in the same register a copy of the testament of Richard Bradcoke, citizen and goldsmith of London, deceased, and a copy of the same man’s last will annexed to the same testament, this among other testaments of the same year legally proved by the reverend Master Zanobius Mulakyn, doctor of canon law and at that time dean of the aforesaid church of St Mary. And the tenor of that copy of the testament and last will of the said Richard Bradcok, deceased, and their probate follow here in these words: In the name of God, Amen. On 27 October ad 1441 and the twentieth year of the reign of King Henry VI, I, Richard Bradcok, citizen and goldsmith of London, of sound mind and good memory, draw up, make, and ordain this present testament of mine in this manner: Firstly, I bequeath and commend my soul to almighty God, my creator, and to the blessed Virgin Mary his mother, and to all the saints, and my body to be buried in the church of St Vedast, London, next to the grave of my late wife Helen. Item, I bequeath 6s. 8d. to the high altar of the same church for my forgotten and withheld tithes and offerings. Item, I bequeath 13s. 4d. to the fabric of the same church for having my grave there.
