Summary
Folios 69v–74r contain deeds relating to Bowyer Row.
Folio 69v is blank for the first three-quarters of the space, and then the following two short documents are copied into the lower part of the page. Both belong to the following section, and must have been added later (or else they would have been included within the pages headed up for that section), they are in the same hand as the other deeds for Bowyer Row, and the first one has been labelled for its correct placing (see below). The second one appears to be an earlier document concerning the property, dating from before the earliest in the main section.
Renunciation of rights by Edith Edmond [3 March 1309]
And memorandum that at the aforesaid Husting Court, i.e. the Husting Court for Pleas of Land held on the Monday after the Feast of St Mathias the Apostle in the second year of King Edward son of King Edward [3 March 1309], the aforesaid Edith, the wife of the said William Edmond, appeared in her own person of her own free will in the full Husting Court and she renounced all her rights, for herself and her heirs, that she had, had had, or ever could have in that messuage with shops and their appurtenances, in perpetuity etc.
This memorandum should be entered on the next following folio after the sign like this +
Provisions of the testament of Michael de London2 [20 January 1269]
The donation and provision of the testament of Master Michael de London, i.e. the aforesaid Michael grants five marks annual rent to maintain a chaplain in perpetuity, which five marks should be received from a certain house and shop situated in the parish of St Martin the Less etc. and Master Michael grants that shop with all etc. to Richard de Berdefeld and his heirs, for four marks to be paid at the four terms of the year, i.e. at Michaelmas, Christmas, Easter, and the Feast of St John the Baptist etc. but the aforesaid Michael grants the shop which is on the other side of the street in the same parish to Stephen, chaplain, for one mark’s rent at the four terms of the year, as above. Issued at London in the year 1269.
