The clergy of York province at this time were £8000 in arrears on their payment of the last subsidy.

Rex venerabili in Christo patri Iohanni, eadem gratia archiepiscopo Eboracensi, Angliae primati, salutem. Quia de avisamento concilii nostri pro quibusdam arduis et urgentibus negotiis tarn nos et expeditionem guerrae nostrae ac iura nostra et coronae nostrae in partibus transmarinis quam statum et defensionem regni nostri Angliae et Ecclesiae Anglicanae contingentibus, quoddam parliamentum nostrum apud Westmonasterium in crastino Sancti Edmundi regis proximo futuro [21 November 1373] teneri ordinavimus et ibidem vobiscum ac cum ceteris praelatis, magnatibus et proceribus dicti regni nostri colloquium habere et tractatum, vobis in fide et dilectione quibus nobis tenemini firmiter iniungendo mandamus quatenus, consideratis dictorum negotiorum arduitate et periculis imminentibus, cessante excusatione, dictis die et loco personaliter intersitis nobiscum ac ceteris praelatis, magnatibus et proceribus praedictis super negotiis praedictis tractaturi, vestrumque consilium impensuri. Et hoc sicut nos et honorem nostrum ac salvationem regni terrarumque et iurium nostrorum praedictorum ac ecclesiae sanctae expeditionemque dictorum negotiorum diligitis, nullatenus omittatis. Praemunientes decanum et capitulum ecclesiae vestrae Beati Petri Eboracensis ac archidiaconos totumque clerum vestrae diocesis, quod iidem decanus et archidiaconi in propriis personis suis ac dictum capitulum per unum, idemque clerus per duos procuratores idoneos plenam et sufficientem potestatem ab ipsis capitulo et clero habentes, praedictis die et loco personaliter intersint, ad consentiendum his quae tune de communi consilio ipsius regni nostri, divina favente dementia, contigerit ordinari. Teste rege apud Westmonasterium quarto die Octobris [4 October 1373]. Per ipsum regem et concilium.
