Summary
The archaeology of the Early Bronze Age (EBA) in Asia Minor is worlds apart from that of the Chalcolithic, a difference clearly marked by the abundance of data for the EBA, on the one hand, and the research questions dominating EBA investigations, on the other.
In the previous chapter it was argued that a Childean research agenda, in which developments in Prehistory are condensed into a few major threshold events, is dominant in the archaeology of Asia Minor and has led to a very uneven investigation of the past. For example, for the Middle and Late Chalcolithic a total of 68 sites have been excavated in Asia Minor, a figure that can be contrasted with a total of about 163 excavated sites dating to the EBA. The difference between the two periods is even more marked if we take the duration of these periods into account: Per Chalcolithic millennium there are about 27 excavated sites in contrast to the 163 EBA sites.
