Not long ago a regular player in the Opéra orchestra, not recognising a young dancer who had just made her entry, asked one of his neighbours her name: “That’s Mlle. Zina”, came the reply; “you know, the one whose costume came undone on the evening of her début.”

“A remarkable incident”, added Monsieur Auber, who was nearby, in an undertone; “it was one of those rare occasions when success was the result of coming undone.”
