Summary
When I first met Nobuko she was doing heradministration work for the Human GeographicalSociety of Japan at the Exhibition Hall in theFaculty of Letters of Kyoto University due to thefact that the building where the Department ofGeography was located was blocked because of studentunrest.
I even surprised myself how little I put on airs when Iwas with Nobuko, but that's the effect she had onpeople. Nobuko said I was not a typical KyotoUniversity student and that it was my jauntyyouthfulness that she liked. And she often said shewas impressed that I always wore a tie, and at theway my sharply-creased trousers swished. Apart fromattending lectures and teaching at Dōshisha KōriMiddle School and the Kinki Preparatory School mytime was free and our life in my parents’ house inOsaka carried on until I got my job at FukuiUniversity on 1 April 1975. Looked at in the contextof our later lives, this was an important two yearsfor us.
