Summary

Described Hardwick & Luard: iii.725; Repertorium i.46.

f. 1

… leue blessid be he þat is comen in oure lordis name.

Final words of a Sunday gospel sermon for Advent 1 (Matthew 21. 1–9); text begins imperfectly. The first sermon in the English Filius matris, translated from the late s. xii or early s. xiii Latin Collectio ‘Filius matris’ traditionally attributed to William de Montibus (c. 1140–1213). Wells Rev. 11:4287 [31]. Items [1–32] belong to this sermon cycle. For a full copy of the same cycle, containing sixty-one sermons, but which omits translations of the full gospel readings, see Kk.6.2 [1–61]. For a description of the English cycle see Spencer, ‘Translation’. There is no complete edition of the cycle, but for an edition of the sermon for the second Sunday after the octave of the Epiphany (item [13] below) see Bowers; for a parallel text (Latin/English) edition of the first two sermons see Spencer ‘Vernacular’.

Other texts: See Kk.6.2 [1].
